Hello and welcome to Banksia Care.

My name is Dr. Him-Chan Lee, CEO.

I moved to Australia in 1987 to complete my degree in Geriatric Medicine and worked in the field as a Geriatrician for 22years. In 2013 I changed roles and was appointed CEO of a large Aged Care facility in Sydney. The position was more balanced with my other important role as Husband to my beautiful wife, Kate and father to our three daughters but still ensured my dedication to working within the aged care community could continue.

When our eldest daughter Kim was accepted into the University of Melbourne Law School, we decided as a family to move with her and I was fortunate to be welcomed into the Banksia Care family and was honoured to have been appointed CEO in 2019.

In July of the same year, the new Aged Care Quality Standards replaced the former Accreditation Standards, the new Charter of Aged Care Rights refocused the previous legislation and Banksia Care internally was undergoing extensive upgrades to our systems across medication management and clinical care. Then, in early 2020 we all were faced with the most challenging medical and social issue we are likely to ever face – the pandemic.

Although this meant I definitely hit the ground running, I was able to experience firsthand what an amazing group of professionals I had been surrounded with. Caring and passionate, committed and brilliant, selfless and dedicated. I indeed had been blessed. It was an exciting time to join the team at Banksia as the industry was facing many important changes and I was looking forward to being able navigate those changes together as a new team, but the impact Covid-19 had on us all personally, internally and as a industry was indeed great, tore at all our hearts and to date still has a significant influence on our day to day operations.

I would like therefore to take the opportunity to publicly recognise the commitment of our staff. At Banksia Care you can be assured of a team who take pride in the quality of care provided and work tirelessly to ensure everyone feels welcome in an environment that is both comfortable and inclusive. Any organisation is only as strong as its staff and our dedicated people have embraced the policy, procedure and system changes that have been made, have stayed strong in the fight against Covid and continue to work united attending to the social, physical and emotional needs of our residents.
